⚠️ Important

A quick, honest note: Garden of Remembrance is run by the Methodist Church in Singapore, and Kenneth has no agent relationship with them. Everything below comes from their own published pages and from their team directly, but for anything specific to booking, pricing, or availability, contact them directly, they're the right people to speak to, not Kenneth.

What is the Garden of Remembrance?

The Garden of Remembrance is a Christian columbarium in Choa Chu Kang, established by the Methodist Church in Singapore under Christian Columbarium Pte Ltd. It's set within landscaped, tranquil grounds with balconies and open spaces for quiet prayer and reflection, and it's one of the largest and longest-established private Christian columbaria in Singapore, holding over 30,000 niches.

It's about a 10-minute drive from Boon Lay MRT, with ample on-site parking and complimentary high-speed WiFi.

Lease terms

Niches at the Garden of Remembrance are leased, not freehold. They run a batch lease system, with each batch generally covering around 30 years. The current batch of niches expires in 2059, while the land lease itself extends until 2098. What happens to a batch when its term ends, and what a renewal would cost, is worth asking them directly before you buy.

If lease structure matters to your decision, see Leasehold or Freehold? What Columbarium Ownership Actually Means for the broader picture on how this works across Singapore's columbaria generally.

Wake and memorial service facilities

Five air-conditioned rooms are available for Christian wakes, funerals and memorial services, with space for 24 to 150 people. The Parousia and Hallelujah can also be booked together as one larger space. Garden of Remembrance rents out the space only. Decoration is arranged by your funeral director and there is no catering surcharge, so food is arranged either by the funeral director or by the family. Wreath clearance is S$8 per wreath before GST, billed on the final day.

Other services

• Exhumation and transfer of urns from other columbaria • Design and ordering of personalised or traditional marble plaques • A complimentary memorial service hosted twice a year, open to families and friends of those resting at the Garden of Remembrance

Authorising someone else to collect the ashes

If the original applicant or next-of-kin can't easily get to Garden of Remembrance themselves, it's possible to designate a third party to help coordinate the dis-interment of ashes on their behalf. Garden of Remembrance issues an authorisation form for this directly to the applicant or NOK, and the niche number(s) need to be provided to their main office for this to be processed. This is often useful when the family lives overseas, isn't mobile enough to make the trip, or simply needs someone else to handle the coordination.

The designated third party is often the funeral vendor already helping the family, and it's something Kenneth can personally help with too, acting as that third party to collect the ashes and coordinate what comes next, whether that's an ash scattering on land or a sea burial. If this is something you need, WhatsApp Kenneth directly and he'll walk you through it.

How it compares to other columbaria

Garden of Remembrance is a private, Christian-specific columbarium. If you're weighing it against other options:
